My neighbours banned me from talking after 9.45pm despite waking me us each morning – I’ve only lived here for a week
WHILE some people grow close to their neighbours, for others, they try to avoid them at all costs.
And one frustrated woman has revealed how she’s trying to do the latter after her neighbour in the flat below gave her a very unusual request – to stop talking at 9:45pm.
In a thread shared to Reddit, she explains: “We live in a shared townhouse and the couple downstairs have asked that my partner and I stop talking at 9:45 pm in the evening because they can hear us.”
To make matters worse, the woman went on to reveal that she’d only been living in the flat for just one week.
Baffled, she then asked social forum users whether they think she’s the one in the wrong – and the answer was a resounding ‘no.’

Meanwhile, a fourth added: “Hahahahahahaha. Nope!
“Insane entitlement to think they can ask this of you! Suggest to them you all look into sound proofing options.”
Another added: “They’re mad. I’d be tempted to make some mental list of when you can hear them. 6am-7am etc. fight crazy with crazy.”
Elsewhere, other social media took to the comments section to share their own suggestions of how the noise complaint issue can be resolved.
One person questioned whether the woman moved into a property with plenty of soft furnishings to help absorb the sound.
“If not once you’ve got pillows, rugs etc then it won’t be as much of an issue,” she advised.
Another, who commented that the request was “hilarious,” asked whether her carpets have good underlay.
“They are clearly being unreasonable, but the sound carry must be awful between the flats if you can both hear each other talking,” they wrote.
A further pointed out: “If they can hear you and you can hear them and no one is screeching, you have a noise insulation problem which you should work together to address.
“In the meantime, you could agree to keep your noise down after 10pm provided they keep theirs down until 7am?”
