A fifteen-year-old boy who was stabbed to death outside of a primary school told his killer ‘chill out’ before he was attacked.

Alfie Lewis was stabbed in the chest with a 14cm blade in Horsforth, West Yorkshire on November 7 last year.

Another 15-year-old boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – is standing trial at Leeds Crown Court accused of murder.

The court has now heard that Alfie told his killer to ‘chill out’, then asked ‘what are you doing?’ as he pulled out the knife.

On the day of the stabbing, Alfie was going to meet friends from school and was seen on CCTV passing St Margaret’s Primary School just before 3pm.

Prosecutor Craig Hassall KC said: ‘Alfie did not get as far as meeting any of his friends that day. He was approached by (the defendant), and stabbed twice – once in the chest and once in the leg.

‘He collapsed and died in the road close to the primary school in full view of scores of pupils leaving school and the people who were waiting to collect them.’

Alfie suffered a 14cm deep chest wound which hit his heart – leading to ‘catastrophic’ internal bleeding, a post-mortem found.

He also suffered stab wounds to his jaw and thigh.

The defendant, it was said, had been at school that day and was described by a teacher as being ‘normal chatty self’.

Though Mr Hassall said the defendant had been carrying the knife around ‘all day’ in hopes of seeing Alfie.

After the fight began between Alfie and the other teen, a teacher told of how sheran towards the fight and ‘thought he had witnessed Alfie being punched in the chest’.

Another witness said they saw Alfie ‘trying to keep the defendant away from him with his legs’ and another said she saw the defendant approach Alfie and then ‘attack him’.

The trial continues.
