I’m a manicurist & use a $3 drugstore buy to strengthen my own nails – stop a common mistake that’s making yours thinner
A PRO manicurist has shared an affordable drugstore buy that helps strengthen her nails.
She urged nail fans to stop making a common mistake that’s making their nails thinner.
Molly Romah, a nail artist at Chillhouse, shared her tips and tricks for at-home manicures with The US Sun.
For those who are just getting started with doing their own nails, she recommended shopping around for affordable materials instead of breaking the bank.
The most important thing, she added, is finding products that you’re constantly reaching for.
“Not every product works for everyone. But if you find some that work for you, use it,” she said.
Romah added that you might be shocked by what you’d find at your local drugstore.
One of her holy grails, she revealed, is the $3 Sally Hansen Nail Hardener.
“There is a lot nail care at drugstores. I use Sally Hansen Nail Harder or Nail Strengthener, when I don’t use gel,” she said.
“This helps protect my natural nails from breaking. And if I want to last longer I’ll do CND Shellac Gel. It is easy to remove and lasts long.”
Romah stressed the importance of nail prep before laying down any primer or polish.
To prevent breakage and ensure nail health, she advised beauty fans to make a habit of using cuticle oil.
“I use Chillhouse’s On the Mend on my cuticles and fingers if I have gel on,” she said.
“If I have regular polish, I use it before I do polish applications. I wash my hands, then use nail wipes to clean the nails before polish applications.
“Apply cuticle oil often on cuticles for moisture.”
The manicurist even makes it a point to carry cuticle oil on-the-go.

“Carry On the Mend with you. It is small and convenient and includes a nail file. The oil brush pen is easy to apply,” she said.
Beginners, she added, would do well to watch out for overzealous techniques that can damage the nails, like over-cutting the cuticles and over-buffing.
“The nail becomes too thin and the cuticles peel,” she said.
Other nail experts have shared their affordable tricks and tips for easy nail care.
One woman shared her homemade nourishing recipe for the nails, made with common household items.
She added fresh lemon juice to olive oil, soaking her nails for ten minutes in the solution.
“This mixture will not only moisturize your nails, but it will add strength and flexibility,” she said.
