Steve Carell and Tina Fey Are Reuniting for New Comedy Series, Here's What We Know

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are teaming up again for the first time in nearly 15 years in the upcoming Netflix comedy series, The Four Seasons. Although details are still fairly thin, some information is starting to emerge.

Variety first reported that the series had been picked up for an eight-episode order back in January, with Fey (who co-created the series) attached to star. Also at the helm are Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, who previously worked with Fey on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock.

The series, which is based on the 1981 film of the same name, tells the story of three couples who regularly vacation together, until the dynamic of the group is thrown off when one of the husbands leaves his wife and replaces her with a younger woman. The film stars Alan Alda (who also wrote and directed) and Carol Burnett as one of the three couples, Jack and Kate Burroughs; along with Rita Moreno, Sandy Dennis, Jack Weston, Len Cariou, and Bess Armstrong.

The series was written and directed by Alda and produced by Martin Bregman; daughter of the original film's producer, Martin Bregman. Fey, Fisher, and Wigfield will executive produce, along with David Miner, Eric Gurian, Jeff Richmond, Alda, and Bregman. Fey's television production company, Little Stranger, will produce the series under Universal Television.

Production is slated to begin later this year, though an exact release date has not been set.

This marks the first time Fey and Carrel will have shared the screen together since their 2010 romantic comedy, Date Night. Both have previously worked with Netflix, as Carrel starred in the now-defunct comedy Space Force; while the streamer aired Fey's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for four seasons from 2015 through 2020. The 53-year-old also currently lends her voice in Netflix's animated series Mulligan, which she also executives produces.

Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time The Four Seasons has been adapted into a television series. Just three years after the film's release, Alda created a CBS series based on the film with some returning cast members. However, it only aired for 13 episodes during the 1983–84 season.
