Hoka’s Skyward X Sneaker Puts a Carbon Fiber Plate and PEBA Foam Inside a Daily Runner
Hoka has announced the Skyward X, a new daily running sneaker that boasts a carbon fiber plate and PEBA foam.
The carbon fiber plate, an essential element in super shoes, appears on Hoka’s new elite daily runner in a convex shape intended to replicate the arch of a foot while providing a feeling of “weightless suspension.” It sits between two layers of foam, as soft PEBA foam sits closer to the foot with firmer EVA foam beneath it sculpted into Hoka’s signature MetaRocker shape.
“The Skyward X is the result of extensive testing, prototyping and thoughtful innovation, creating something entirely new for Hoka,” Colin Ingram, vice president of Product and Apparel at Hoka, said in a press release. “We increased the stack height and completely reimagined our use of elements like PEBA foam and carbon fiber plates, typically associated with race day products, to create a super running shoe that provides core runners with a supremely plush experience for their daily miles.”
A new flat knit upper features zonal engineering for a snug fit and works in conjunction with a TPU heel counter and integrated ghillie system in the eyelets to lock down the foot. The sole unit’s Deep Active Foot Frame then cradles the heel for more security.
With a stack height of 48mm, the Skyward X has a 5mm drop and comes in at 11.3 ounces for a men’s size 10 and 9.2 ounces for a women’s size 8.
The Hoka Skyward X release Thursday, April 25, through the brand’s website and stores, as well as third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $225.
