Exclusive CNN Report: US forces fired towards civilians during chaotic exit from Afghanistan
CNN has revealed new details of the deadly ISIS attack at Kabul airport in August 2021, showing that after the ISIS attack, US forces engaged in gunfire, resulting in “numerous” casualties not from the suicide blast but from US soldiers’ shooting.
The television network, in an exclusive report released Wednesday, April 24th, has questioned at least two official reports from the US Department of Defense on the deadly explosion during the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.
According to official reports from the US Department of Defense, in the deadly ISIS attack at Kabul airport in August 2021, where thousands had gathered to leave Afghanistan, 13 US soldiers and around 170 Afghans were killed, but CNN’s findings have questioned this claim and reported on the deaths of many Afghan citizens as a result of US forces’ gunfire.
CNN reporters Mick Kreve and Nick Paton Walsh examined GoPro footage recorded by Marine riflemen, previously prevented from being released, showing that the number of shootings is much higher than the Pentagon has admitted so far.
American soldiers present during the deadly ISIS attack at Kabul airport have also spoken, confirming gunfire after the suicide attack, stating that it was not one or two individuals but a large number of soldiers who began shooting.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post has reported, citing its sources, that US forces transferred the perpetrator of the deadly ISIS attack at Kabul airport from India to a prison in Afghanistan. According to this report, Abdul Rahman al-Logari, identified as the perpetrator of the deadly attack at Kabul airport, was transferred from India to Bagram prison in Afghanistan in January 2021.
US forces vacated Bagram Air Base, where Bagram prison was located, on July 2, 2021, without coordination, and Abdul Rahman al-Logari was released on August 15, 2021, eleven days before the attack on Kabul airport.
