How National Enquirer witness just revealed Trump’s felony crime: legal analyst
Former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker shared the information that elevates Donald Trump's criminal charges from misdemeanors to felonies on Thursday, ex -Justice Department prosecutor Andrew Weissmann revealed.
Speaking to MSNBC after Pecker broke from testifying, Weissmann noted that violation of campaign finance laws elevates the falsification of business records charges from misdemeanors to felonies.
Trump's is accused of falsifying records to hide hush money payments to adult movie actress Stormy Daniels. Though the charges are usually misdemeanors, Trump's are felonies — meaning prosecutors need to prove it was done to "predicate underlying crime."

In his case, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg argues that Trump coordinated the payoffs with Pecker and his lawyer Michael Cohen. Pecker would offer to buy the story, then kill it so it couldn't be published.
To funnel the money, Cohen set up an LLC and then misrepresented the purpose of the bank account.
And Pecker shared from the stand that the hush money scheme, he believed, was all about protecting Trump's presidential campaign.
"Legally, it's important to have the campaign finance predicate — why it's a felony," Weissmann said.
"The principal who had the agreement with the other principal, David Pecker, Donald Trump — to have him say this was about the campaign, not his personal family, goes directly to the legal theory," Weissmann explained.
Trump has argued that nothing he did was a crime and it was all about "bookkeeping."
