LAHA HOUSE COMMITTEE PAYS WORKING VISIT TO DSVA
The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC, as part of its oversight functions, paid a working visit to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on Wednesday.
In his address, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ladi Ajomale said the purpose of the visit was to familiarise members with the activities, aims, and challenges of the Office and to also promote the existing cordial relationship between the State House of Assembly and the Agency.
Noting that the Committee wish to build a formidable working relationship and to ensure the Agency is up to the task of ensuring that Lagos is safe and ideal for all its residents, Ajomale stated that members must be acquainted with the Agency’s success rates, challenges, budget and its relationship with other relevant organisations and MDAs.
The Chairman, however, commended the Agency for its well-put-together structure and workings, assuring that the Committee would look into the budget slash and running cost of the Agency in the coming year.
Hon. Joseph Olaide Kehinde, a member of the Committee, urged the Agency to liaise with the Public Service Office for Operational Vehicles as the Agency has continued to contribute to the peace of the State.
The Honourable member also advised the Agency to engage in more publicity to further disseminate the SGBV messages to the residents across the State.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi gave a presentation on the Agency’s efforts and commitment to ensuring Justice for Survivors, the workings towards achieving a clear goal of ensuring an end to SGBV and the challenges encountered in the course of duty.
She noted that the Agency also seeks a review of the DSVA Law regarding the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, Spousal Battery, Forceful Eviction from Home, Economic Abuse, Decentralised Service, Establishment of More Designated Police Stations and Heightened Awareness.
