#11 Razorbacks 8th After RD2 at SEC Championship
SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The #11 Arkansas men’s golf team shot a 2-under par 278 and stands in eighth place at the SEC Championship, played at the par-ST> 70 Sea Island Golf Club – Seaside Course), with a two-day total of 557 (-3).
Second-ranked Vanderbilt continues to lead, shooting 276 (-4) on Thursday and has a 36-hole score of 545 (-15). Florida, ranked 15th, had the round of the day with a 10-under 549 and moved up four spots into a tie for second with #23 Georgia, each with an 11-under total of 549. Top-ranked Auburn is fourth (-10), #7 Tennessee is 5th (-9), #22 Texas A&M is sixth (-6) and #9 Alabama, who was 8-under on Thursday, is seventh (-5). Arkansas holds a four-shot lead over #5 Ole Miss above the cutline.
After a 2-over round on day one, John Driscoll III bounced back and led the Razorbacks in round two, firing a 1-under 69. He climbed 13 spots into a tie for 33rd as he offset bogeys on holes 4 and 13 with birdies on holes 5, 10 and 15.
Overall, Jacob Skov Olesen, who stands in a tie for 14th, continues to lead the Razorbacks, posting two rounds in the 60’s. He is -3 and carded a 1-under-par round of 69 on Thursday. Olesen bogeyed the par-4, 4th but birdies holes 7 and 8 to make the turn at -1. He dropped a shot on 10 before bouncing back with a birdie on 11.
Christian Castillo is tied for 20th (69-70=139 / -1). The senior had 16 pars, a bogey and a birdie to card his even-par 70. Matthis Lefevre also turned in an even-par round of 70 with two bogeys and two birdies. He moved up two spots into a tie for 33rd with a 36-hole total of 141 (+1).
Thomas Curry is tied for 40th with consecutive rounds of 71.
The third and final round of stroke play is set for Friday. The top eight teams will advance to match play on Saturday.
