Thomas Tuchel named as main candidate to get Man United job by pundit
Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is uncertain after a disappointing second season at the club.
The former Ajax manager has failed to impress during his time at Old Trafford, even though he won the Carabao Cup in his debut season.
The Dutchman has struggled in charge of the Premier League club, with the Red Devils currently sitting in sixth place in the league.
Man United were knocked out from the group stage after finishing bottom of the group that contained teams like Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
There could still be some silver lining for ten Hag at Man United as he has the opportunity to win the FA Cup against Manchester City this month.
However, his playing style and his tactics have been heavily criticised throughout the season.
The Red Devils have lost 12 Premier League matches this season and they can only qualify for the Europa League next season, although that could be difficult for them as well.
A number of big names managers have been linked with the Old Trafford job. Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerb, Thomas Tuchel and others have been mentioned.
However, Jan Age Fjortoft has named one manager who he feels is the main candidate for the Man United job.
The pundit named Bayern Munich manager Tuchel as the main candidate for the job.
He did that along with taking a dig at ten Hag’s claim that Man United are one of the most entertaining teams in England.
On ESPN FC, Fjortoft was questioned about Tuchel’s chances of joining Man United this summer.
He said: “Tuchel, I would say that I think he would be the main candidate if Ten Hag managed to leave the most entertaining team in England.”
Man United target could win another Champions League
Tuchel has struggled at Bayern Munich this season and that is why they have made the decision to let him go.
His Bayern team lost the Bundesliga title to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, ending the dominance of Bayern after a decade.
The German tactician is still fighting to win the Champions League though. His team played a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid.
It remains to be seen if Man United move ahead with their interest in the former Chelsea manager.
If given the opportunity, Tuchel would be hoping to prove his doubters wrong back in England after his dismissal from Chelsea back in 2022.
