CT man charged in death of woman run over in driveway arrested for sex assault in unrelated case

A man facing charges for allegedly running over a woman in a driveway in Wolcott who later died was arrested again and accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a parking lot in Coventry last summer.

James Sadlowski, 31, was arrested Tuesday on charges of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful restraint, according to the Coventry Police Department.

Police said the charges followed a lengthy investigation into a sexual assault reported in a commercial parking lot in August 2023. Police allege Sadlowski had only met the victim the night of the assault.

Sadlowski was identified as a suspect with the assistance of police in Cromwell and Wolcott and the use of DNA, according to police.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Rockville Superior Court, where his case was continued to June 7.

Sadlowski, who is being held on $500,000 bond on the sexual assault charges, has not entered a plea.

Sadlowski also has a case pending in Waterbury Superior Court in connection with the death of a woman who was run over in a driveway in Wolcott on Feb. 10 in the early morning hours.

According to the Wolcott Police Department, Sadlowski was out drinking with Brandon Hamel and 37-year-old Alexandra Standish that night when they left in separate vehicles and went to a home on Central Avenue shared by Standish and Hamel, who were dating. Police said Standish went out to speak with Sadlowski while he was parked in the driveway before he backed out and ran over her while she was behind the vehicle.

According to police, Hamel then came out from the home to the driveway, where authorities said there was a long delay before either man tried to help Standish. Neither of them called 911.

Hamel and Sadlowski lifted Standish and put her into Hamel’s vehicle. Sadlowski then left the house and went to the motel in Meriden where he was staying, police said.

Hamel drove Standish to Bristol Hospital, where surveillance showed he was in “no rush” to get her care, according to police. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sadlowski was arrested on April 11 on charges of second-degree manslaughter, intentional cruelty to persons, evading responsibility that caused a death and multiple motor vehicle offenses.

According to police, investigators are expected to charge Hamel in Standish’s death once he has recovered from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash that occurred a couple weeks after Standish died.
