Rays 1 Brewers 7: No fight left for the Rays

Rays leave Wisconsin with four runs in three days.

The Rays fell to the Brewers on Wednesday 7-0 to fall to 14-18 on the season, dropping the three game series after a game one win.

Former Rays shortstop Willy Adames shined in the game, with two home runs and four RBI. Brewers starter Colin Rea also had a nice outing, throwing six scoreless innings allowing just four hits.

Pat Murphy was notably absent from the Brewers dugout in this one, with the manager serving a suspension following last nights fight between Jose Siri and Abner Uribe.

Siri was originally suspended for two more games including today’s, however during the game it was announced Siri had already appealed his suspension and gotten his three games reduced to two, making him available on Saturday.

The Rays would find an offensive spark in the top of the second inning, putting runners on the corners with two outs, however a Curtis Mead strikeout would end the threat and keep the game nodded at zero.

The Brewers would bring a threat of their own in the bottom of the third, with Brice Turang and Oliver Dunn getting on base with singles to put two men on with no outs. Back-to-back outs made it look as though Eflin and the Rays may get out of it, however a William Contreras double down the left field line brought both runners in to score to make it 2-0.

The bats would go quiet on both sides as this pitching duel wouldn’t see another run until the bottom of the sixth when Adames hit a solo home run over the center field wall.

A double by the speedy Tyler Black would spell the end of Eflin’s performance on the mound, as the rays brought in lefty Garrett Cleavinger to take over.

Erasmo Ramirez would then take over to pitch the seventh inning, where the Brewers would add on to their lead with Dunn scoring from first on a double from Blake Perkins to make it 4-0.

That wouldn’t be the end of it though, as Adames would crush his second home run of the day with two men on to extend the lead to seven.

The Rays would finally respond in the top of the eighth putting runners on the corners with just one out. Richie Palacios would score from third on a wild pitch by Uribe to erase the shutout and make it 7-1.

The Rays will (thankfully) get a day off tomorrow before kicking off a three game series against the New York Mets on Friday debuting their new City Connect uniforms. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:50 PM.
