Delhi: The Board of Control of Cricket in India announced the T20 World Cup squad earlier this week. While the squad is on predicted lines, what is now turning out to be concerning is the form of India captain Rohit Sharma, who is currently featuring in the ongoing season of the IPL. Turning up for the MI side on Friday, Rohit scored 11 off 12 balls against the Knight Riders. And in 11 games in this IPL, he has amassed 326 runs at an average of 32. Mind you, this features a century as well against CSK. So, if you take that century out, he has not been in good form like he is expected to.

Now, there are serious speculations over would Rohit have found a spot in the Indian T20 WC squad if he was not the captain. While such wild discussions are on, india.com posed ‘this’ very question to former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif, who was part of Star Sports’ ‘Press Room’.
‘Rohit Sharma has seen this kind of situations where he was in out of form and people putting question mark on what is happening, he is not scoring runs but he has comeback a lot of times when he was facing the criticism, which right now he is and this is a very valid question because he is not playing well in the IPL,” Kaif said on Star Sports’ ‘Press Room’ show while responding to india.com’s question.
‘But Rohit Sharma in the ICC event, we saw what he did in the fifty overs world cup, Rohit and Gill set the tone for other batters. You know he’s not scoring hundred, he’ll just give proper start in the first six overs. Him (Rohit) and Jaiswal will set the tone, He might get out on the score of 35 or 40 but the cameos in the power play will help the team and the biggest thing is leadership quality, you can’t rule out his record as a Captain in the IPL and with the Indian team he Just reached the finals of the ODI World cup,” he added further.
