Paul Pelosi's attacker faces potential 40-year prison sentence for 'terrorism'

The man convicted of breaking into Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) home and hammering her husband has been recommended to serve 40 years to life in prison.

The 2 a.m. ambush on Oct. 28, 2022, committed by David DePape who was found guilty by a jury of attempting to kidnap Member and Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi "on account of the performance of her official duties" and assault of her husband, according to the filed sentencing memorandum.

It was first reported by Politico reporter Kyle Cheney.

Based on the pre-sentencing investigation, prosecutors recommend that DePape go to prison for 360 months (30 years) up to life imprisonment plus 10 years "to run consecutive and the remainder to run concurrent to each."

Testifying in court about the attack, Paul Pelosi recalled when he came face-to-face with a hammer-clutching intruder.

The man was found to be emboldened to execute his then-House Speaker wife.

DePape allegedly told Paul Pelosi that his wife was “the leader of the pack” and he “had to take her out," according to the court papers.

“We had some conversation with him saying she was the leader of the pack, he had to take her out, and that he was going to wait for her," the 83-year-old recounted, adding that he hadn't spoken about it because it was "too traumatic."

"When DePape took the stand in his own defense, he admitted that he was influenced by the words being served to him by Donald Trump and others on the right.

Fortunately, Paul Pelosi was able to call 911.

But when the police arrived, Pelosi opened the door and DePape was standing next to him clutching a hammer and "violently struck" Pelosi three times (twice on the head) before cops subdued him.

Pelosi was unconscious for minutes in a pool of his own blood, according to various reports.
