Man charged with stabbing woman, 66, to death at bus stop

A man has been charged with murder after a 66-woman was stabbed to death at a bus stop in north London.

Jalal Debella, 22, was charged with the killing of the woman in Edgware on Thursday.

It comes after a woman was fatally stabbed at around 11.50am on May 9 on Burnt Oak Broadway in north London.

The woman was fatally injured.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she died at the scene, the police said.

Debella was arrested on suspicion of murder in the Colindale area on Thursday.

He is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Saturday charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

The incident led to a major emergency response in the north London borough after reports of a stabbing on the high street, with officers, ambulance and air ambulance HEMS in attendance.

Graphic footage shows how the woman was seen lying motionless and unresponsive in the middle of the road.

A group of people surrounded her as they tried to stem the bleeding with a gauze from a first aid kit, garments and towels.

Someone can be heard asking “darling, are you here? Can you hear me?”, while people frantically phone the emergency services.

Others help to manage the traffic, gesturing for cars to slow down and move around the spot.

Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis urged people ‘to refrain from speculating about the circumstances’ when the investigation launched.

‘A family has been left devastated by this shocking attack and my thoughts are with them at this unimaginably difficult time,’ he said.

He added: ‘Local people will notice an increased police presence in the area in the coming days to provide reassurance.

‘If you have concerns or just want to speak with officers, please do approach them as they patrol.’
