Presenting legend overcome with emotion as he signs off final radio show after it’s axed after 15 year
FRANK Skinner broke down in tears as he said goodbye to listeners today after 15 years on the airwaves.
The comedian and broadcaster, 67, joined Absolute Radio in 2009 and began hosting his own Saturday breakfast slot called The Frank Skinner Show.
This year he was told that the talk show was set to be axed in March, and has admitted that he did not take the news well.
He apologised to listeners for having to say goodbye today, defiantly sharing: “It’s pretty well-documented, I don’t want to go.”
The radio veteran then got emotional as he completed his final segment alongside co-hosts Emily Dean and Pierre Novellie.
He told fans he would miss them, saying: “I thanked our readers before but honestly, the just, funny, interesting, informative, honest, you’ve triggered off, sort of entire shows have been based on one funny text or email.
“I shall miss you, I suppose I see you as one group but as I said, you’ve totally been the fourth member of the team.”
Frank added that over the past 15 years the show has been his “radio diary”.
He paid tribute to co-star Emily, saying: “she has been a key component, we’d have done 15 weeks if it wasn’t for her, instead of 15 years”.
Frank then shared that he spent all his redundancy dosh on Lego Avengers, joking that the hobby will last him “to eternity”.
Despite trying to keep a brave face, Frank began to break down as he said his final farewells in a heartbreaking speech.
“You’ve been the best audience ever,” he sighed.
“I can’t do the ‘we’ll be back next week’, because we won’t, we’ll never be back. But I love you all. Bye bye.”
The show host could then be heard crying in the background the programme closed to Elton John’s ballad Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
