Prosecutor sets stage for explosive Hunter Biden trial with ex-wife and ex-girlfriends
Federal prosecutors this week outlined some of the evidence they will use against Hunter Biden, son of the U.S. president, in a case alleging he made false statements and was addicted to drugs when he purchased a gun in 2018.
According to court documents filed on May 20, 2024, by Special Counsel David C. Weiss, Biden allegedly lied on a federal form while buying a gun in 2018, claiming he was not an unlawful drug user. However, prosecutors assert that Biden was actively using crack cocaine at the time.
In a 20-page trial brief, prosecutors listed evidence, including admissions from Biden's book, "Beautiful Things," where he describes his struggles with crack addiction. Prosecutors also plan to present testimony from individuals close to Biden, as well as text messages and financial records that support their case.

In one excerpt from his book, Biden states, "By the time my plane touched down in Los Angeles in March 2019, I had no plan beyond the moment-to-moment demands of the crack pipe."
The prosecution claims that Biden knew he was a drug user and addict during the time he owned the gun, which is central to the charges against him. The document said that prosecutors plan to call Biden's ex-wife and two ex-girlfriends as witnesses.
To prove their case, prosecutors will also rely on witness testimonies, including those from a firearms dealer and law enforcement officials who recovered the gun. Additionally, forensic analysis of a leather pouch found with the weapon, which tested positive for cocaine, will be presented.
The government's evidence also includes 75 text messages where Biden describes his addiction.
