AN interior designer has revealed budget-friendly tricks that help make a home look more expensive.
His expert tips include everything from wall color and furnishings to easily overlooked fixtures.
Many homeowners have begun to revamp their space after completing their annual spring clean.
Excessive spending isn’t necessary to give homes a refreshed and luxurious feel.
Jim Evans is one of the heads of luxury interior design firm Uber Interiors & Design By Uber.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, he shared several home upgrade tips.
DARING DECOR
Evans said an initial design decision majorly impacts how expensive a home looks.
“I find that this all comes down to a clever choice of colors and materials,” he said.
“Feature walls are an incredibly easy and affordable way to create a sense of luxury in your room.
“A big splash of rich color can help give the room a classical or contemporary feel depending on the color palette.
“Designing around this wall, placing adjacent rugs, or hanging your favorite art piece, showcases that area of the room as a statement piece, adding some grandeur.”
FAB FURNISHING
Evans said stylish furnishings can enhance a space but it’s important not to overdo it.
“Avoiding clutter is just as important when making a room seem refined and spacious,” he said.
“Cutting back on unnecessary furniture and objects also helps your budget go that bit further.”
He recommended choosing artistic lighting and accessories that complement the overall color scheme.

“A pendant light or two could be installed without breaking the bank,” he said.
“These hanging lights help class up the room, especially when teamed with the surrounding furnishings and colors.
“When thinking about furnishings, whites, and off-whites have often been utilized to help make a smaller space look bigger.
“Paired with a natural motif in the room such as wooden floors, pot plants, etc., and flooded with natural light, white or off-white sofas really help open up the space.”
Evans revealed other pastel colors can be just as effective for achieving the desired look.
“If white isn’t the color scheme you’re looking for then perhaps embrace light powder blue and green tones,” he said.
“A soft and calming sea green sofa for example when partnered with earthy or wooden furnishings gives a small room a bit more of a breezier open vibe.”
