DLP says leaders Yearwood and Blackett still in place
The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) says its elected leadership remains in place, in spite of “misinformation in the public domain”.
The party issued a statement Wednesday morning on the status of President, Dr Ronnie Yearwood; and general secretary, Steve Blackett, both of whom were previously reported as suspended.
“The DLP categorically restates the position of the Party, its elected leadership, and the Executive Council, which is responsible for the direction and management of the Party. The General Secretary, Mr Steven D. Blackett and President, Dr Ronnie Yearwood remain in their duly elected roles as voted by the membership of the DLP in August 2023,” the statement said.
“The Party wishes to assure its members and the public that every effort is being made to conduct its business in an orderly manner.”
It also condemned the conduct of member/officer Pedro Shepherd.
“We appreciate that many people are looking to the Democratic Labour Party to be their voice, a credible Opposition Party, and Government-in-waiting,” It said.
The statement added that the DLP would continue to advocate for the people of Barbados and remain focused on the pertinent issues affecting the country. (PR/SAT)
