Last remaining York Steak House for sale as owner retires

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Columbus steakhouse rated among the top in the city is up for sale as its owner prepares for retirement.

York Steak House was part of a chain that started in 1966 before expanding to nearly 180 locations by 1976. Over the years, most York restaurants have been discontinued or sold off, with its Columbus location remaining as the only one left in the country. Now, that location at 4220 W. Broad St. is up for sale.

"After 45 years, Jay is ready to retire and the business is officially FOR SALE," a social media post read. "The restaurant continues to have great success and offers a perfect opportunity for a future owner."

The steakhouse will not close due to owner Jay Bettin's retirement.

"York Steak House will continue with normal operation until sold," the post read

On the York Steak House website, the last location left standing is portrayed as a point of pride, with the West Broad Street location standing as a nostalgic spot for many.

"This last unit strives to maintain the same quality and atmosphere, where loyal guests continue to have that past nostalgic experience, with a fresh, present day appeal," the website said. "For many of our customers, mentioning the words York Steak House invokes not just memories, but also the smell of a mouthwatering grilled sirloin."

In December, York Steak House was the 16th highest-rated steakhouse in Columbus, per TripAdvisor. It received an average rating of 4.0 from its 46 reviews.
