Over $6.5m will go to rural road safety improvements in Kansas
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Kansas Department of Transportation High Risk Rural Roads Program will see $6.65 million go towards improving rural roadways.
The program is federally funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program with an additional $2.37 million coming from local funds. This year's projects were selected from 46 applications that were seeking a total of $40.5 million.
“Our rural roads are important to the local and state economy,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “Programs like this enable commerce to flow smoothly and improve safety for Kansas families as they travel our state.”
The projects fall into two categories: 'systemic', for road networks and site-specific. The projects that were selected can be seen below:
