Meat shops capitalizing on Memorial Day

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Each year, Americans eat more beef on Memorial Day than any other day of the year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Local meat shop owners are reaping the rewards.

Mike Zyrowski is the owner of Kansas Premium Meats in Belvue, a store that he bought in December 2023. He put over 120 new items on the shelves this week to get prepared.

"We've got an increase in sales. Everyone loves to be grilling, we've got some really nice weather outside, so we've got an opportunity to really get the grilling season started with this weekend coming up," he said.

"It usually does make things a little more exciting. We've got a little more work to do to get done, and just kind of a little bit of a rush there right before the holiday to get things finished up so we have what people need when they come to get it," Forster stated.

Both stores utilize Memorial Day sales and samples to keep the momentum rolling, and provide families with all their protein needs.

"It's definitely a weekend we look forward to. It's a huge start to our summer. Memorial Day weekend, not only for the soldiers that have passed, but it's a grilling weekend. It's where families get together, a lot of opportunities to start. But, yeah our business definitely relies on it," Zyrowski said.
