Daughter, son-in-law of Missouri politician among 3 killed in Haiti
MISSOURI (KTVI) - Missouri State Rep. Ben Baker says his daughter and son-in-law were both killed in Haiti in a gang attack.
Baker (R-Neosho) says his daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Davy Lloyd, were attacked by gangs and killed. They were both full-time missionaries in Haiti.
"My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain," said Baker in a Facebook post Friday morning on the situation. He continued: "They went to Heaven together."
A third person also was killed during the attack Thursday evening in the community of Lizon in northern Port-au-Prince, Lionel Lazarre, head of a Haitian police union, told The Associated Press on Friday. The third victim has not yet been publicly identified.
The young couple worked for Claremore, Oklahoma-based nonprofit Missions in Haiti Inc., which was founded by Davy Lloyd's parents, David and Alicia Lloyd. According to Natalie Lloyd's Facebook page, she and Davy married in June, 2022 and started working for the nonprofit in August of that year.
Nonprofit Missions in Haiti Inc. called for an "urgent prayer" in a Facebook post on Thursday, reporting that Davy, Natalie, and some kids were coming out of a church when they were "ambushed by a gang of 3 trucks full of guys."
The post said Davy was "taken to the house" where he was tied up and beaten as the gang loaded up the organization's trucks and took them. The Facebook messaged described another gang arriving at the house and Davy, Natalie and Jude hiding in the house and using the star link internet to communicate as gang members shot out the window.
A message three hours stated that Davy and Natalie had been shot and killed, adding, "We all are devastated."
As of Friday, it's not yet clear who was responsible for the deadly attack.
According to the Associated Press, various attacks have followed since Haiti announced a new prime minister on April 30. Gangs in Haiti have laid siege to several neighborhoods, burning homes and exchanging gunfire.
