Craft brewery recalls Bruce Forsyth-inspired beer as cans may explode
A Yorkshire craft brewery has recalled a beer inspired by the late entertainer Bruce Forsyth out of fear the cans could explode.
Brew York has advised that anyone with the Juice Forsyth IPA in their house should open it while it’s submerged in water – and while wearing hand and eye protection if possible.
The recall, issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), applies to 440ml products with the best before date July 23 2024 and is specific to items sold in England.
Unfortunate wording on the can describes the 5.0% ABV drink as a ‘pineapple, mango and passion fruit tropical explosion’.
The notice distributed on the FSA website said there have been reports of cans ‘pouring with excessive carbonation’, ‘bulging’ and even ‘bursting in some circumstances’.
Customers can contact the York-based brewer once the beer has been disposed, to get a coupon for use on its website ‘as well as a little extra on us as an apology’.
The page for Juice Forsyth on Brew York’s online shop pays tribute to the much-loved Strictly Come Dancing presenter, who died in 2017.
It says: ‘Good game, good game! Do you wanna go higher?
‘Then enjoy the juicy bonus fruited IPA, that combines Cascade, Citra, CTZ & Mosaic hops, with muchos pineapple and mango for a tropical explosion as bold and juicy as the legendary entertainer that this salutes.’
Cans also feature a silhouette of Forsyth in his famous ‘thinker’ pose.
Other beers sold by Brew York include the Grand Theft Auto-themed Weisse City, a milk stout called Obi Wan Cannoli and a collaboration with football pundit Chris Kamara named Kammy’s Un-Beer-Lievable to mark Euro 2024.
Products made by the popular craft brewery, based in an industrial estate in Walmgate, York, can be bought at supermarkets including Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
