Report: La Liga club unable to meet Spurs’ demands after ‘official meetings’
According to El Mira, Real Betis are not able to meet Tottenham’s asking price for Giovani Lo Celso but remain hopeful of clinching a deal for the midfielder.
Lo Celso, who has just a year left to run on his contract, has been tipped to leave Spurs this summer, with several Spanish outlets suggesting that Betis are keen on re-signing the player they sold to the North Londoners back in 2019.
Lo Celso struggled for regular football last season
The player struggled for regular first team football under Ange Postecoglou last season with injuries playing a part in his inability to build up a consistent run of matches with arguably his best moment coming when he scored at Manchester City.
Just last week, Estadio Deportivo claimed that there had been ‘fluid contact’ between the Premier League and La Liga club regarding a deal for the 28-year-old.
The report said that Spurs are demanding €25m (£21.4m) for the Argentina international, who is thought to be keen on returning to the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Real Betis encounter transfer issue for Lo Celso
El Mira have now offered an update on Betis’ pursuit of Lo Celso, stating that the midfielder has emerged as the ‘main objective’ for the La Liga side this summer.
They say that ‘official meetings’ have taken place regarding a deal but the Spanish side are finding it difficult to meet Tottenham’s request.
The publication reports that Lo Celso is keen on a return to his former stomping ground and that Manuel Pellegrini’s side hopeful that the player’s willingness is ‘more than enough to unblock the operation’.
Lo Celso made 24 appearances for Tottenham last season across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists (transfermarkt).

With Lo Celso having just a year left on his deal, he has a decent amount of power in this situation and I would expect the midfielder to get his wish of returning to Betis.
Given the huge importance he places on his status with the Argentina national team, he will certainly be wanting to play regularly next season rather than being a fringe player in the Tottenham first team squad given his age.
