North Carolina Judge Strikes Down Abortion Pill Protections, Women Could Die From Botched Abortions
A North Carolina judge has struck down pro-life laws protecting women from the dangerous abortion pill – making it so women could die from or be injured by botched abortions.
A federal judge issued her final ruling Monday in a lawsuit by an abortionist challenging the laws so more dangerous abortion drugs could be sold. The ruling strikes down common sense regulations requiring a doctors visit before using the abortion pill – important ot rule out an ectopic pregnancy where the abortion pill could kill women.
It also sells the abortion drug in pharmacies and says women don’t need a follow with a doctor – making it so the abortion pill is totally a back alley procedure.
NC Values Executive Director Tami Fitzgerald made a statement today about the decision by U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles to strike down health protections surrounding abortion drug laws:
“This decision lowers the standard of care for women, allowing dangerous DIY in-home abortions which statistically causes complications in one out of five women. Easily obtained chemical abortion drugs are also used by human traffickers and domestic abusers who force abortions on their victims which is happening all over the United States. The decision also strikes down reporting requirements for non-fatal complications from the drugs, which conceals dangerous complications and side effects of abortion drugs. This decision puts women’s health and safety at risk so the abortion industry can fast-track dangerous chemical abortions and maximize profits.

“In-home abortions leave women and girls to give birth to their dead babies at home alone without the assistance of a doctor, often long after the 10-week limit the FDA recommends. They are not prepared for the emotional trauma or any medical complications that result. It is reckless to not require follow-up visits to check on the physical and mental health of the post-abortive woman. Attorney General Josh Stein joined legal forces with pro-abortion advocates to ensure the abortion industry makes as many quick sales as possible on abortion drugs while putting the health and safety of women in crisis at risk.”
According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), one in 25 women who have chemical abortions will end up in the emergency room. The FDA recklessly endangered women’s health by removing the safety standards it once provided to women using abortion drugs.
Because of the FDA’s reckless actions, the rate of abortion drug related emergency room visits has increased more than 500% over the past 15 years. Women and girls are sold on chemical abortion drugs with a promise the affects will liken a heavy period, but reported affects include weeks of heavy bleeding, excruciating cramping, nausea, and delivering dead and alive babies at home. One woman said, “They didn’t tell me I would see its eyes and its fingers. They didn’t tell me I would be holding my dead baby.” Women and girls also aren’t told they will experience labor without a doctor’s help with severe pain and excessive bleeding as they suffer alone in their bathrooms, which have become their in-home abortion clinics.
