Stunning aerial pic shows Glastonbury tents ready for 200,000 revellers who are set for scorching 30C heatwave

GLASTONBURY’S tents are lined up and ready as more than 200,000 festival-goers arrive today on what could be a 30C scorcher.

Some places could even hit a tropical 31C (88F) today, say forecasters, to crown a three-day streak of record daily highs and stifling warm nights.

Brighton and Bournemouth beaches were again packed yesterday as sunseekers revelled in the heat.

Roller-skating Sophia Belding made the most of the weather along Bournemouth Promenade.

Others enjoyed a dip at Hampstead Ponds in North London.

The day’s highest temperature was recorded at Chertsey in Surrey where the 30C (86F) made it the hottest UK day since September 10 last year.

Experts predict that may be equalled at Worthy Farm in Somerset, where Glastonbury ticket-holders can safely leave the wellies at home.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said cooler air would arrive across the UK by tomorrow.

He said: “There may be the odd few spots of rain on Thursday and Saturday, but for the most part it’ll be dry and bright at Glastonbury.

“A frontal system is moving in but will be quite weak across England and Wales. It’ll feel cooler but we’ll still see up to 29C (84F) on Thursday.”

Not everyone was enjoying the heat — with millions forced to endure an uncomfortable night. In Hull, the temperature on Monday evening into Tuesday stayed above 17.5C (63.5F).

Hot and bothered Mike Covell said: “It was like being in the Bahamas.”

Gwen Lunn added: “It was absolutely suffocating. I had an air conditioning unit and two fans on full blast and it was still stifling.”

Yellow heat health alerts have been issued for eight separate regions and will remain in place until tomorrow.

London and the South East will see the highest of the temperatures.

Last night, bookies Coral cut its odds on this summer becoming the hottest on record from 6-4 to 4-5.

The firm also makes it 5-4 for July to be the hottest on record.

Spokesman John Hill said: “It finally feels like summer has arrived.”
