UN describes women’s role in global decision-making as “limited”

The United Nations Women’s Division released a report stating that women’s participation in global decision-making remains scarce, with only 26 countries worldwide led by women.

According to this agency, as of Tuesday, June 25th, there are no women in leadership positions in 113 countries.

The UN Women’s Division considers achieving gender equality in political life a distant goal and emphasizes that women have limited executive decision-making roles globally.

The organization’s report for 2024 shows that 23.3% of ministerial positions globally are held by women, indicating marginal growth compared to 2023.

The UN Women’s Division notes that women are more involved in social, family, and minority leadership roles, while men predominantly control political, economic, judicial, and defense domains.

Previously, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated on International Women’s Day that achieving legal equality for women may take centuries.

Despite global advocacy, the United Nations and many countries continue to push for Afghan women’s participation in politics, society, education, and decision-making.

Women in Afghanistan face severe restrictions on basic rights under oppressive policies, affecting their education and employment opportunities. These policies curtail their freedom to participate fully in society, perpetuating gender inequalities.

Fundamental rights for Afghan women, such as access to education and employment, are heavily restricted by oppressive policies. These limitations deny them opportunities for personal growth and perpetuate societal inequalities based on gender.
