Alasdair Gold reveals what he knows about Tottenham’s Jacob Ramsey pursuit

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that his sources at Tottenham have refuted suggestions that the North London club have had an offer for Jacob Ramsey turned down by Aston Villa.

Over the last couple of months, a number of outlets have suggested that Tottenham are eyeing a move for Ramsey, with Villa said to be open to cashing in on the midfielder owing to their PSR issues (Football Insider).

Earlier this week, Daily Express journalist Matt Maher even claimed that Spurs had launched an offer for the 23-year-old, which had been turned down by Unai Emery’s men.

This claim has now been refuted by Gold, who says that suggestions of a formal offer being made for Ramsey have been ‘played down on various sides’.

However, he does confirm that Tottenham are very much interested in the England Under-21 international, with the interest said to be driven by technical director Johan Lange, who was formerly at Villa Park.

Gold claims that with Lange and his team would have made the case for a move for Ramsey with their data-led approach, with the midfielder seen as a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.

However, the journalist explains that Spurs would have merely probed to see if the Villa star was on the market and adds that the Midlands side are unlikely to sell their academy graduate at the moment.

Tottenham might potentially revisit their interest in Ramsey later in the transfer window and could test Villa’s resolve with an offer.

Emery’s men are toeing a fine line with respect to PSR and may be open to cashing in on the midfielder in order to fund moves for their top targets.
