NEEDLESS to say, names are personal, and some aren’t for everyone.
One woman expressed frustration when her son’s baby name was criticized.
Emily shared her parenting woes in an advice forum post.
She had unveiled the highly-anticipated name at her baby shower but was shocked when it was met with hesitation.
“I decided to announce my son’s name at my baby shower, and I am getting so much negative feedback,” she said.
“It’s not even the most unique name. I know adult males with this name, and I don’t think it’s crazy at all. I think it’s a beautiful name.”
Emily revealed that she wants to name her son Valentine.
“Pronounced like Valentine’s Day,” she said.
“I’m not really sure how to end the convo, I feel like people are on a mission to convince me to name him anything else.”
Parents agreed that the name wasn’t too out there.
“There are times that I agree with the masses that it’s a terrible baby name and should be changed,” said one commenter.
“But this is not one of those cases. It’s a great name, used appropriately; there’s nothing wrong with it!”
They advised the mom to hold her head up high.
“Stick with your choice and tell others you’re not interested in hearing their opinions,” they said.
“I LOVE the name Valentine. I considered it for a middle name, but it wouldn’t go well with our last name,” said another.
“I also seem to always like the polarizing names, so there’s that.

They added that while they adored the name, others might feel differently.
“It is bold and different; you will probably always get comments about its uniqueness, so you would need to be comfortable with that,” they said.
One viewer added that the name etymology bid good vibes.
“I looked up the meaning. [It] has a good meaning: Valentine is a gender-neutral name of Latin origin, meaning ‘strong’ or ‘healthy,'” they said.
“It is derived from the Latin word valens, which means ‘strong and healthy,’ and is related to the Latin names Valentinus and Valentinian.
“Valentine has biblical roots with over 50 saints and a pope sharing the same name.”
