Report: AC Milan set to push for player who was said to be Tottenham’s top target

According to Tuttosport (as relayed by MilanNews), AC Milan could now be ready to push ahead with a move for Santiago Gimenez, who has been mooted as a target for Tottenham.

Spurs have been linked with a whole host of number nines through the summer, with Gimenez’s name appearing more often than most.

The Mexican international has had two prolific seasons with Feyenoord and is widely being tipped to leave the Eredivisie to make a move to the bigger club.

In fact, just two weeks ago, GiveMeSport claimed that the 23-year-old is considered to be Spurs’ top striker target, with the report adding that the Lilywhites are having to deal with plenty of competition from around Europe for the player’s services.

However, this was subsequently contradicted by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, who asserted that Spurs had distanced themselves from links with Gimenez and Ivan Toney.

AC Milan could make a move for Gimenez

TuttoSport have now revealed that the Rossoneri could be about to push ahead with a move for Gimenez after being frustrated in their attempts to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

The report claims that Milan has identified the Feyenoord star as an alternative, with the Eredivisie side said to value their marksman at €50m (£42.3m).

However, the publication adds that Paulo Fonseca’s men are of the belief that there is a margin to negotiate and bring that price down.

If Tottenham did hold a serious interest in Gimenez, one would have expected the North London club to have made a move for him by now.

It is clear that the Mexican does not rank anywhere close to the top of Postecoglou’s wishlist.
