Grand Theft Auto DLC cancelled as company focuses on GTA Online instead it’s claimed

A STAND-ALONE Grand Theft Auto DLC story where Trevor worked with the police was cancelled after GTA Online became popular, it is claimed.

Trevor’s voice actor from GTA 5, Steven Ogg, previously spoke about recording voice lines for a DLC but that it was never released.

For Rockstar’s part, a GTA 5 DLC where Trevor was the star was never officially announced, but there were still signs that it was in development at some point.

Now more concrete evidence of the DLC has been revealed, including a reason why the project was ultimately cancelled.

Former Rockstar employee Joe Robino spoke to YouTuber SanInPlay about the rumoured Trevor DLC.

As transcribed by IGN, the developer claims that he was working on the stand-alone DLC before it was ultimately cancelled.

Robino said: “I took on this other project that was a standalone DLC for GTA that never came out.

“When that game got shelved, we’d spent so much money.

“A lot of that stuff though did end up making it I believe into later iterations of GTA Online, I think. So it’s not like they wasted it.

“It was really really good. But when GTA Online came out it was so much of a cash cow and people were loving it so much that it was hard to make an argument that a standalone DLC would outcompete that. 

“I think looking back now you could probably do both. But that was a business decision they made. I was a little upset about that.”

It was long suspected by fans that GTA Online’s popularity was the reason why expansive DLC was never released for GTA 5, but this was never announced officially.
