England fan flies to German Euros fan zone for same price as going to UK one

Up Next

A football fan fed up with the cost of heading to watch the Euros at fan zones in London decided to get his money’s worth by flying out to host country Germany to watch it there instead.

Callum Ryan, 23, booked a flight to a fan zone in Berlin on June 26 to show other England supporters how cheap and easy the trip can be.

The football fan booked a two-hour flight with Ryanair from East Midlands airport to Berlin Brandenburg International airport which cost him £32.95.

When Callum, a content creator from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, touched down in Germany he bought a tube ticket to the city centre for four euros.

He then met his friend and the two of them went shopping and got to enjoy seeing the sights of Berlin before heading to the fan zone for the match.

Before booking his Berlin flight, Callum had looked up how much a ticket for the fan zone at Box Park in Shoreditch, London, was.

He said it would have cost him £32.21, while the fan zones in Germany are free – which means flying to Germany to attend one was just 74p more that going to one in London.

Callum said: ‘My plan was there to be there for a day and experience the fan zone and the city.

‘I bought a meal deal which cost me eight euro for a hotdog and a bottle of beer, which I’m pretty sure is cheaper than a pint in London.

‘My friend Louiz from Berlin showed me around all the different fan zones in the city. We also took the opportunity to do some shopping.’

Callum went on to say the atmosphere at the German fan zone was good.

He continued: ‘The atmosphere was amazing. The people were all in good spirits and felt exactly like when we held the Euros back in 2020.

‘People are there to watch the football. The food is good and the people are so nice and the vibes are good.’

He also said there were lots of activities in and around the fan zone – including food vans, bars and interactive games for all as well as a big screen for when the games are on.

He added: ‘The idea of the video is to fly there for the same price as a fan zone experience in the UK.’

In total Callum spent £32.95 excluding food and drink on a flight to Germany, which is only 74p more expensive than a ticket to Box Park fan zone in London.
