'Unbelievable experience': Savannah Bananas draw fans from around the country to Buffalo

BUFFALO N.Y. (WIVB) - The Savannah Bananas are drawing in fans near and far to the Queen City, as Banana Ball will take over Sahlen Field again for two more games on Saturday and Sunday.

"They are just so much fun," said Melissa Kangas, who traveled with her family from Long Island to watch the Bananas. "It's amazing to watch, all the dance moves and the cool catches and pitches. It's really just so much fun."

Friday night's game drew in a sold-out crowd, with thousands flooding into Sahlen Field for the fastest game in Banana Ball history and to take in all the sights and sounds. The ballpark will be packed again this weekend.

"We went last year in Savannah, it was the most amazing experience," said Mark Kalish who traveled from Philadelphia. "They had a blast. Had to do it again this year. We're willing to drive, make a little trip out of it. And it is just the greatest two hours of entertainment. Unbelievable experience."

The Theriault family drove 9 hours from Maine to catch the performance.

"It's very nice to be able to see a different city," said Amanda Theriault. "We went to Niagara Falls and then we're able to enjoy them in a different park and we get to see the Firefighters."

"This is our first time in Buffalo, actually so we're enjoying it," added Adam Theriault.

Before all the action at Sahlen Field for game two, Bananas first base dance coach Maceo Harrison was hyping up fans at the Dunkin' on Michigan Avenue.

"Oh, it's awesome," Harrison said. "I don't change myself for anybody I'm always this way 100 percent."

"We're very excited," Kalish said. "We're here to check out some of the players now and grab some breakfast. Make a fun day out of it."

Between the dancing, the music and the ball game, there's something "appeeling" for every fan.

"Day 2, more laughs, more trick plays, more split and more twerks, from me," Harrison said.
