London faces soggy weather as Emma Radacanu takes to the court

Tennis fans have found themselves persistently frustrated by delays to Wimbledon matches caused by this week’s poor weather (Picture: Shutterstock)

If you’re headed out to one of the many outdoor events slated for this weekend in the UK, be sure to pack a raincoat.

Forecasters are currently calling for heavy rainfall through into next week, with flood alerts in place for certain parts of England and Scotland

The wet weather comes with a raft of major events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, including Wimbledon and major concerts in Hyde Park, as well as the Henley Regatta and the British Grand Prix.

It’s already created issues at the world-famous tennis court, with persistent delays caused to matches on outdoor courts through the first week of the championship.

Fans were nevertheless left stunned by Emma Raducanu’s performance yesterday, when she bested Greece’s Maria Sakkari to secure perhaps her best run ever at the tournament.

Fans of classical music stars Andrea Bocelli and Katherine Jenkins were similarly soaked while attending their outdoor concerts in Hyde Park last night.

Meanwhile, the capital has also witnessed a degree of travel disruption, after Golders Green underground was forced to close due to flooding yesterday evening.

However, it appears Scotland is currently bearing the brunt of the bad weather.

People woke this morning to yellow weather warnings and as much as 50mm of rainfall predicted throughout the day.

The downpour now appears to be making its way down south toward eastern parts of England this afternoon.

Other parts of the country are also experiencing showers, with an added risk of hail and thunder in some places.

Nor does there yet appear to be any sign of respite in the coming days.

Showers will remain widespread throughout Sunday and Monday.

The Met Office anticipates things may brighten a little in certain parts of the country later toward Tuesday afternoon, before the rain begins to set in again on Wednesday.
