VSP: No arrests yet in Pawlet triple homicide investigation

PAWLET, V.T. (NEWS10) -- Vermont State Police continue their fourth day of investigations at a home on Route 133 in Pawlet, where troopers found three people dead Sunday. All three deaths were ruled homicides, but police said they have no suspect in custody.

Police released the identities of the three victims who lived in the home, on Tuesday night. Brian Crossman Sr., 46, Erica (Pawlusiak) Crossman, 41, and Colin Taft, 13, were each killed by gunshot wounds. Colin was Erica's son and Brian's stepson.

Officers also confirmed Brian suffered a gunshot wound to the head and torso, Erica suffered a gunshot wound to the head and Colin had multiple gunshot wounds.

In part of a statement to NEWS10, police said although this was not a random attack the public should still take some regular precautions.

"As the case continues to unfold, VSP encourages members of the public to take reasonable precautions, including locking their doors and being aware of their surroundings. Anyone who sees something or someone suspicious should call the police right away," said Adam Silverman, Public Information officer for Vermont State Police.

Police originally responded to call of a "suspicious person" in the area on Sunday morning, that led them to find the three victims at the home. Locals said this is not something that happens often in the community.

“I just I couldn’t believe it because I know exactly where it is and what was going on, and you know, your first thought is, who could do this? Who could commit such an atrocity? And the fact that a young person was involved is dreadful," said Sarah a resident of Rupert, V.T.

Brian Crossman Sr. is a Pawlet Selectboard member. The board held a meeting Tuesday night, where they had a moment of silence for Brian and his family. There were also flowers present next to Brian's nametag.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this devastating loss. The town of Pawlet will work to get through this as we always have through hard times, by supporting each other, and doing our best to carry on," said Mike Beecher, Chair of the Pawlet Selectboard.

“I can’t imagine what a lot of people, their family, is going through, I mean horrible, horrible tragedy," said Sarah.

While the investigation continues, police ask anyone with information to contact them by phone, 802-773-9101, or through an anonymous online tip here.
