Spurs recognise that senior player has a key ‘flaw’ he needs to work on at Hotspur Way

The Daily Mail say that there is recognition internally at Tottenham Hotspur that Guglielmo Vicario must improve considerably when it comes to dealing with set-pieces.

Vicario is not the best from set-pieces

Postecoglou has always continued to support Vicario publicly and play down his perceived weaknesses when it comes to dealing with corner kicks and in-direct free-kicks.

However, the evidence is now overwhelming that the Italian does indeed have a weakness in that regard as he continues to flap at set-pieces on a weekly basis.

The latest example came in the North London Derby when Vicario seemed more preoccupied with pushing Arsenal players than paying attention to Gabriel’s headed winner.

The Mail say that internally at Hotspur Way, Vicario’s shot-stopping is rated highly and the goalkeeper is also valued for his being able to help Postecoglou implement his high-risk possession-based philosophy by playing out from the back.

However, many at Spurs do acknowledge that the former Empoli man is extremely reluctant to attack crosses, which they recognise as a ‘flaw’ in his game.

The publication adds that the Lilywhites want their number one to work on improving that aspect of his game.

Vicario is extremely driven and a fierce competitor. He will acknowledge the flaw and will be working hard in the training ground to improve that part of his game.

You often see goalkeepers look a little erratic when they first join the Premier League. Hugo Lloris was the same, as were the likes of David De Gea and Alisson at times. Vicario just needs some time.
