Strictly Come Dancing risks row with makers of new Paul Mescal film after studio booking clash
STRICTLY dance routines have wrong-footed a big-budget Shakespeare movie filmed in the studio nextdoor.
The hit BBC One show shares a lot with Hamnet, a drama about the playwright’s early life, with Normal People star Paul Mescal in the lead role.
Special sound barriers have been erected between the two sites, as the Strictly dancers rehearse to loud music.
But a TV insider said: “There have been some bizarre moments where actors in full Tudor dress have performed on 16th century-style sets with Gangnam Style blaring behind them.
“Obviously the cast and crew have seen the funny side but it has been frustrating at times.
“It’s all part of the joy of having contrasting productions existing shoulder to shoulder on shared studio spaces.”
Sources at the Beeb have pointed out that they can also be affected by noise from the set of Hamnet, named after Shakespeare’s only son who tragically died aged just 11.
The film’s creators have this week contacted Strictly producers to warn them that they are preparing to film a huge, rowdy scene at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Herts.
The scene is expected to coincide with the first live show of the new Strictly series tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, Anton Du Beke has shared his pride at going solo – after seemingly cutting ties with Giovanni Pernice.
Anton and Giovanni became a dynamic duo on screen after meeting on Strictly, hosting a travel show together and going on multiple UK tours together.
However, following Giovanni’s unceremonious exit from Strictly over accusations of rehearsal room bullying, their travel show was shelved.
After completing an already booked tour with Gio, Anton is now going on it alone for an upcoming three month tour.
