‘Paddle for Autism’ wraps up successfully at Ayia Napa Marina

On October 26, 2024, Ayia Napa Marina hosted the final phase of the ‘Paddle for Autism’ ultramarathon. A group of 40 volunteers paddled 70km, to raise money towards building the Smile Project Multipurpose Centre, which will provide daily care and education to adults with autism.

The route started from Zygi and ended at Ayia Napa Marina, under the escort of safety boats and the support of the Begafico and Windsurfers on Tour sailing teams. The ultramarathon lasted about 12 hours and included smaller groups of volunteers participating in the course’s last 45 and 5 kilometres. The public watched participants’ spectacular arrival, culminating in a charity event with a raffle, music, food and drinks, at the Event Plaza, the outdoor area in front of the Marina’s iconic Event Center.

Ayia Napa Marina played a central role in the event, proving its commitment toward supporting the local community and social responsibility. Its contribution to organising and hosting of the event’s finish strengthened its role as a strategic partner in charitable actions.

A team from Syros also participated in the event, travelling its own 20km route on the same day, thus supporting the effort from afar.

Ultimately, ‘Paddle for Autism’ showed that collaboration and social awareness can yield meaningful results. The charitable initiative not only amplified awareness about autism, but also raised significant funds towards the construction of the Multipurpose Centre. The Centre promises to make a real difference in the quality of life of people with autism, as well as their families in Cyprus.
