Iranian Official: Legal Afghan migrant children should have access to education
The Governor of Fars, Iran, stated that children of documented Afghan migrants must be granted the right to education.
During a meeting of the Fars Education Council, Hossein Ali Amiri emphasized the need to review proposals related to this matter to ensure that eligible children are not deprived of schooling.
This statement comes amid the new academic year in Iran, where multiple reports have surfaced of Afghan migrant families complaining that school officials have refused to enroll their children.
On Tuesday, October 30, the ISNA news agency reported that the Fars Governor called for planning to provide education for the children of documented Afghan migrants in Iran.
Hossein Ali Amiri stated, “Planning for the education of foreign nationals should be such that it causes minimal harm while achieving maximum benefit.”
The plight of Afghan refugees in Iran is growing increasingly dire, with numerous accounts of mistreatment, harassment, and even torture by Iranian police.
These incidents are occurring amidst ongoing forced deportations as winter approaches in Afghanistan, exacerbating the refugees’ hardships.
