Sophie Turner Shares a Crucial Detail About What Went Wrong in Joe Jonas Marriage
Sophie Turner split from Joe Jonas in 2023, but she’s just now revealing why their four-year marriage was really hard. The couple first got together in 2016 after he slid into her DMs, and it looked like a fairytale romance.
However, things were more challenging behind the scenes for Turner, who was only 20 years old when their love story began — Jonas was 27. They were engaged in October 2017 and married two years later. Their daughter, Willa followed a year later in 2020 and was joined by sister Delphine in 2022. It was a whirlwind way to start a family, and it left the Game of Thrones star little time to catch her breath.
Turner admitted to Harper’s Bazaar that she can’t reveal much about her breakup with Jonas since there is still “a legal process” happening, but she did describe the whole situation as “incredibly sad.” She added, “We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard.” Some of the difficulty came because of her location, Turner missed her home country.
“I’m so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England,” Turner explained. “I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family. I was away for so long – six years – and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant.” The 28-year-old actress missed those “key experiences” with her lifelong pals.
The homesickness followed her from Los Angeles to Miami and the stress of life in the U.S. got to her. “The gun violence, Roe v Wade being overturned… Everything just kind of piled on,” she continued. “After the Uvalde [school] shooting, I knew it was time to get the f**k out of there.”
After a tumultuous child custody battle, Turner has circled back to love. She’s been with British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson for over a year now. A source told Us Weekly in February, “Perry treats Sophie with nothing but respect and he makes her laugh, which is also so important to her.” They reportedly met through mutual friends and had an “immediate spark” that was more than just a “physical attraction.”
It’s a fresh start for Turner who now calls London home sweet home — she’s back in her comfort zone.
