'We have an open wound!' Expert laughs at idea Trump could dodge jail with 'grand bargain'
A legal expert on Sunday laughed off the notion that former President Donald Trump could dodge legal consequences in 2025 by appealing to higher authorities unlikely to prove sympathetic.
Former federal prosecutor Harry Litman discussed with MSNBC host Alex Witt the future of Trump's criminal prosecutions should he lose the presidential election on Nov. 5 — and whether President Joe Biden might issue a pardon.
"I put the odds of that at, hm, zero!" Litman declared. "We have an open wound here, still and I don't see Biden, as his last act in office trying to suture that up."
Trump was convicted in New York City earlier this year of falsifying business records to cover up hush money paid to an adult film start ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

He also stands accused of illegally trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Washington D.C. and Georgia — and has pleaded not guilty.
A case related to classified documents found in his Florida social club Mar-a-Lago was dismissed by a federal court judge, but special counsel Jack Smith has appealed that decision.
Should Trump lose the election, each case would play out over a lengthy period of time — but were unlikely to end well for the former president, Litman argued.
Vice President Kamala Harris, Litman said, was equally unlikely to strike any kind of deal for Trump in the White House considering the dark tone struck on the campaign trail.
"I think there is no room now, for the broader system to operate for that kind of grand bargaining," Litman said. "We're looking at the cases, as they played out for others, and they are not at all pretty for Trump if he loses on Tuesday."
