Guy Fieri's Wasabi Mashed Potatoes Might Be the Flavor Kick Your Thanksgiving Menu Needs This Year
Mashed potatoes are a Thanksgiving staple. It’s like the glue that keeps the peas from running all over your plate, helps the turkey go down smoother, and just tastes creamy and delicious. But it’s not usually known as a particularly surprising or spicy dish — until now. Guy Fieri just shared a recipe for his wasabi mashed potatoes, and oh my lanta, this is a flavor kick that no one will expect.
Fieri takes us straight to Flavortown in his new recipe for Wasabi and Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes shared on Food Network’s YouTube Channel. He starts by adding some spices and sauce to a trimmed garlic bulb, wrapping loosely in aluminum foil and baking. While that’s going, he quarters waxy potatoes, like red bliss, and boils them with the skins on.
Now it’s time to kick it up a notch (or five). The Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives star creates a wasabi paste from a powder, then lets sits as he drains the potatoes and warms other ingredients to use in the potatoes to increase the fluffiness factor. From there, he adds the wasabi mixture and the roasted garlic cloves (which he squeezed from the skins out of the oven), and more. It looks delightful.
“Prime time!” he exclaimed after tasting the dish. Fieri added that there’s “just a little bit of heat coming from that wasabi,” so even people who prefer more milder temperatures will enjoy these potatoes.
