Ronaldo Maximus
That is what Rush Limbaugh called Ronald Reagan, like he was a Roman emperor or something. Meant as a compliment.
Well, yesterday I met a fellow who served on Air Force One and did so for some 40+ years, serving 8 different presidents. He was wearing a pullover sweater with the Air Force One logo and he had some patches on it, honors he had earned over the years of his service. I asked him if he was a pilot of Air Force One, he chuckled, said no, he was a steward, working in the plane's galley and serving those onboard.
He made it a point to say President Ronald Reagan was the absolute best, a perfect gentleman all the time. Treated everyone with the utmost respect. He added, "we loved President Reagan." And the others, I asked? He hesitated then said, well, President Bill Clinton was okay too...just didn't care for his wife. Overall, he said the Republican presidents he served: Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II, were better than the democrats, although he paused and thought for a moment, said, well, presidents Carter and Clinton were okay themselves, but their staffs and guests were generally rude. And Obama, I asked. He rolled his eyes. Said he retired during Obama's first term, just couldn't take it anymore.
He then went back to Reagan, repeated, President Reagan was the best. We loved him.
I asked him what he thought serving during Trump's term would have been like. He said, he knows several people he worked with that are still serving on Air Force One, they like Trump too. Said he was also a gentleman and treated the staff with respect.
Ya know, this speaks volumes about the character of those who served as POTUS. And, I am not the least bit surprised by his opinion either.
