Predicted Tottenham XI to face Chelsea – Archie Gray starts at centre-back
Tottenham Hotspur welcome London rivals Chelsea to N17 this weekend in the Premier League, and Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for another much-needed win. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI for the clash.
Predicted Tottenham XI vs Chelsea
Goalkeeper: Fraser Forster is named in goal once again in place of the injured Guglielmo Vicario. The Spurs number two has actually been in sensational form since stepping in.
Right-back: Pedro Porro is back in the Tottenham XI after being rested against Bournemouth. If one thing has become clear, it’s that Porro is first-choice, Archie Gray is second, and Djed Spence is somewhere after that – judging by Ange Postecoglou’s comments.
Centre-back: Radu Dragusin is Tottenham’s only fit senior centre-back heading into the weekend, so he is nailed on to start at the back.
Centre-back: Archie Gray comes in for Ben Davies who picked up an injury against Bournemouth. This means Spurs have to turn to an 18-year-old central midfielder with just one Premier League start under his belt.
Left-back: Destiny Udogie starts at left-back because Ange Postecoglou simply cannot afford to rotate the back four any more than he is already being forced to.
Pivot midfielder: Yves Bissouma is the only real option at number six at the moment, but Spurs are desperately missing Rodrigo Bentancur who still has games left on his seven-match suspension.
Central-midfield: Pape Matar Sarr is a must for Tottenham if they want to cause Chelsea problems in the attacking third. His high press was effective against Man City and could be again this weekend.
Central-midfield: James Maddison starts in a similar role he played against Man City. His two goals in that open game are what will convince Ange to give him the nod again.
Right-wing: Dejan Kulusevski starts on the right as he did against Man City, dropping Brennan Johnson down to the bench. That will at least give Postecoglou some firepower to sub on later.
Striker: Dominic Solanke may or may not be 100 per cent fit after his recent illness, but he will be required to start up front again for Tottenham against Chelsea.
Left-wing: Heung-min Son was rested against Bournemouth and seems a certainty in the Tottenham starting XI in the London derby.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski start together again
