Changes coming to Niskayuna middle schools in 2025

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Construction at the Iroquois Middle School in Niskayuna is almost done and it will also begin at the Van Antwerp Middle School in the summer of 2025. The school district is making substantial renovations and classroom additions to both schools.

With this impending construction, the Niskayuna Central School District will structure things in a way to make the process go along as smoothly as possible. When the construction is complete, Van Antwerp will become the campus for grades five and six while Iroquois will be for grades seven and eight, but for now, things will switch up for the upcoming school years.

For the 2025 to 2026 and 2026 to 2027 school years, all sixth graders will attend Van Antwerp and construction will be done in phases to eliminate as much disruption as possible. All seventh and eighth graders will attend Iroquois. Kindergarten through fifth grade will be housed in the elementary schools.

In the 2027 to 2028 school year, all fifth and sixth graders will attend Van Antwerp while all seventh and eighth graders will attend Iroquois. Kindergarten through fourth grade will be at the elementary schools.

District officials said that the timeline for the renovations and approval processes of these schools is ahead of schedule and therefore is reconfiguring the grade-level setup earlier than expected.
