Israel kills two senior IRGC Commanders in Iran
Israel claimed its strikes inside Iran killed two senior IRGC commanders, increasing regional tensions and prompting serious concerns about further retaliation and prolonged military escalation.
Israel’s military has announced the targeted killing of two senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders during strikes inside Iran on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed one of the slain individuals was Behnam Shahriyari, head of the Quds Force’s weapons transfer unit, killed in western Iran while traveling in a vehicle.
The other commander killed was Saeed Izadi, leader of the Quds Force’s Palestine Corps, based in Qom province and accused of supplying arms and financial support to Hamas and other militant groups.
Shahriyari was described by the IDF as a key figure funneling weapons, missiles, and millions of dollars annually to Iran-backed proxies across the Middle East.
These strikes are part of a broader Israeli campaign against senior IRGC officials and Iranian nuclear facilities that began on June 13.
Iran has not officially confirmed the deaths of Shahriyari or Izadi, while international observers warn that continued strikes risk further escalation in the region.
In retaliation, Iran fired drones and missiles early this morning to target strategic sites, signaling its determination to respond decisively against the Israeli strikes.
Analysts say these operations may disrupt Iran’s proxy networks but also risk triggering a more dangerous cycle of retaliation across the Middle East.
