‘They only focus on my power but I have more’: Canelo assures a victory over Crawford

Canelo Alvarez says Terence Crawford will experience something new when he meets him in the rinf.

Today Turki Alalshikh held the opening press conference for the upcoming fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. Both fighters were respectful but didn’t shy away from a little jawing. Here’s some excerpts of what they both had to say.

Crawford on how he’ll balance movement with aggression going against Canelo

“However I got to fight, I’m going to win. Simple as that. I’m not going to let somebody else force me or tell me how to fight when I’ve been fighting my whole life. I won’t be running, I can tell you that. But I will be doing a lot of touching.

“I called Canelo out because he the last great fight amongst the era that surpassed us, the Floyd, the Pacquiao, the De La Hoya. We both came up in that era and he was right there with those fighters and he got the chance to fight the Miguel Cottos, Floyd Mayweathers and the Kovalevs and GGGs and I wasn’t able to get those megafights. This is my megafight, this is my moment.”

Canelo on what he’s bringing to the table that Crawford won’t be ready for

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great fighter. But like I say, he’s no Canelo. Obviously been in this situation for a long time and I have the experience. They only focus on my power but I have more than that. And I think this fight is going to be one of my best fights in my history, in my record, and I’m very excited.”

Canelo on what a loss to Crawford would do to his legacy

“He’s not going to beat me, don’t worry about it.

“I know Turkey’s in your corner but look, it’s going to be very difficult [to take my belts]. He’s going to be so mad that day, believe me.”

Canelo on if he expects Crawford to run

“I hope not. I hope not because I think people deserve a good fight.”
