FORMER Highlanders FC speedster Gabriel Nyoni has reignited the Bosso flame with a heartfelt social media post that has left fans teary-eyed and nostalgic.
Nyoni, known for terrorising defenders with his blistering pace, took to Facebook to pay homage to the club that moulded him into the man he is today. His post was a moving love letter to the Black and white family.
“There are clubs… and then there is Highlanders FC,” he began, before unleashing a powerful flood of memories. “This isn’t just a team. It’s a way of life.”
Nyoni played for Highlanders between 2013 and 2019, a period marked by flair, fanfare, and fierce rivalries.
In his time at Bosso, Nyoni lifted the 2013 Mbada Diamonds Cup, and was instrumental in Bosso’s attacking play with his lightning speed and deadly crosses. He shared the dressing room with club greats such as Ariel Sibanda, Erick Mudzingwa, Obadiah Tarumbwa, Charles Sibanda, Simon Munawa, and Rahman Kutsanzira, forming part of a golden generation that brought pride to emagumeni.
“We played for pride, for history, for generations that bled Bosso before we ever kicked a ball,” wrote Nyoni.
He praised the Highlanders fanbase as the soul of the club. “The fans don’t support from the stands… they live this club. Win or lose, rain or shine, home or away… Highlanders fans are there. Singing. Believing. Fighting with their hearts.”
Sending chills down the spines of true Bosso followers, Nyoni recalled the iconic atmosphere at Barbourfields Stadium: “I’ve felt the roar of eMpankweni and Soweto shake the ground beneath my boots. I’ve seen supporters walk for miles just to see us play. That passion shaped me. It still fuels me today.”
Nyoni’s blistering pace earned him admiration across the league and eventually secured him a move to Caps United and later South Africa’s Cape Umoya United and Maritzburg United, before injuries slowed his career.
Now reflecting on his roots, he promised to share more memories and behind-the-scenes glimpses from his time in black and white, inviting fans to follow his journey.
If there was ever doubt that Highlanders is more than just football, Gabriel Nyoni just shut it down with a post that proves Bosso is in the blood.
