Phoenix Southern Restaurant Closes After Being Open Less Than a Year
Less than a year after moving to its new address, Phoenix American Southern restaurant The Larder & The Delta closed down this week.
The eatery, which was run by chef and owner Stephen Jones, first debuted in 2015 and later changed addresses before closing in October 2023. Jones opened the latest iteration of the restaurant in September 2024.
However, on Thursday, he announced in an Instagram post that The Larder & The Deltawas closing, at least "for now."
"When we began this new chapter of the restaurant, it was meant to be the final chapter, the defining chapter of a concept that has grown from the crack in the concrete," Jones wrote. "But like so many things that rely on so many other things to consistently work that hasn’t been the case with this. So with sad news I have to announce the shuttering of this version of the larder & the delta for now….I hope not forever because I truly believe that southern food belongs in the fine dining atmosphere. There are so many stories of the black American south to be told especially told in the valley."
Considering Jones said "this isn't goodbye forever" when he shut down The Larder & The Delta almost two years ago and then reopened the concept again last fall, we're taking him at his word that the restaurant could make another comeback.
In the meantime, Jones revealed some of his immediate plans in his social media farewell.
"what’s next……I still will be cooking with my great friend @chefbeckettaz in July for the @localfirstaz #summerchefsseries so if you haven’t gotten your tickets to that please do so!" he said.
"Stay tuned for pop ups throughout the valley as I want to get back to cooking and working on something’s. this page isn’t going away, look for updates etc….Not good by, but I’ll see you soon."
